One of the most important things to know in Photoshop is how to undo, if you like to use the keyboard shortcut CTRL + Z to undo, you can change your preferences to allow you to undo more than once. Choose the Edit menu, then Preferences, then General (you can also hit CTRL + K). A box will pop up and the third option is Redo Key; choose CTRL + Y, and now you will no longer toggle between undo and redo.

More Shortcuts

  • Tab - removes all of your toolbars
  • Tab key, then "f" key- removes all toolbars and status bar
  • Tab key, then f key, then f key again- removes all toolbars, status bar, and makes the background of your screen black. This is nice when you want to present a graphic to your boss or client without having to close all of your toolbars...try it!
  • CTRL + backspace - fills the active layer with the background color
  • ALT + backspace - fills the active layer with the foreground color
  • CTRL + ALT + R - Shows ruler

Transform Tool

Have you ever tried to resize something, but it became distorted or unportioned? Well here is how to avoid that from happening.

  • Select the layer you wish to resize
  • Select your Free Transform Tool by clicking the Edit, Transform, Free Transform or use the keyboard shortcut CTRL + t
  • While holding shift on your keyboard select the corner of the object with your mouse and scale down
  • Thats it! The image should come out perfect!

***Note*** Do not ever try to make an object bigger unless you are trying to distort it. If you make it too small use Edit Undo, your history, or CTRL + z.
